Design system creation, UI refresh and data-driven product updates for a Fin-tech SaaS company

Location

Remote, with travel to Berlin

Date

June 2024 - Present

Role

Lead Product Designer

Currently creating a design system called "Vault" from scratch for a large SaaS company in Germany. It will be adopted across numerous bank switching products within the company, both B2B and B2C. The project also includes researching and redesigning the experience to increase conversion, focusing on the Spanish market, and testing and creating design consistency from the new design.

We kicked the project off with a collaborative workshop with the product managers, stakeholders and tech leads to align on the project vision and design problems we needed to solve.

I then conducted an audit of existing UX/research and made the call to start a new design system to drive consistency.

We created wireframes based on desk research on the new experience. Due to the rapid ways of working and timeline, we quickly moved onto high fidelity designs as the design system grew. We had regular communication and check-ins with the core team to build upon ideas and agree on design direction and functionality.

We ran two rounds of user testing using Maze.co to prove our concept. This was extremely valuable and led to the company seeing the importance of shaping the visual language and ensuring it is understandable for non-technical users. We created recommendation reports from findings and prioritised actions for the design changes.

Once the designs were approved, I fully speced the components and added interaction notes and variations to the full-page designs. We delivered a full suite of page designs, including some data viz for two products within Qwist, SwitchKit and the Widget. I left the company with a master design file that will allow them to use consistent components for all of their six products in the future.
